Things that you never heard about the Tom & Jerry Show




Cartoons and Animation movies have played a major role in making our childhood life awesome. The Tom & Jerry show is one of the topmost favorites on that list.


 We know a lot about Tom and Jerry character but there are some lesser know facts too.



  • The animated series was created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. That means Tom and Jerry are around 80 years old now.
  • Tom and Jerry were originally called Jasper and Jinx. An intra-studio competition was held to suggest the name. 
  • Tom and Jerry was the name of a Christmas time mixed drink.  John Carr, an animator, suggested the names Tom and Jerry and won $50 in the intra-studio competition.
  • After the successful run of the first episode of the animated series, MGM studio almost stopped the show believing that the cat and mouse concept was too common in cartoons.








  • There are a total of 163 episodes and were first released in 1940 and continued until 2005.
  • Tom moved on all four legs like a normal cat but later started walking on two legs.
  • Tom & Jerry is banned in many countries as many episodes contain scenes with Smoking, alcohol, harmful substance abuse, and violence. Some episodes were banned, scenes were deleted, and characters were replaced over the course of the year.



  • In 1972, the Arab state of Sharjah issued a set of Tom and Jerry postage stamps.
  • Tom and Jerry cartoons won seven Oscars and were nominated for six more
